Montagnac d’Auberoche

Montagnac d'Auberoche - Maison avec Coeur

From the village square of Montagnac d’Auberoche, looking down, you may take in a unique panoramic view, and under clear skies you will see the “Monedières,” in the past known as the Monts d’Auvergne.

The Saint-Marc church is located in the village. This roman edifice dating from the 7th century is officially classed as a Historical Monument; restoration work allowed for the discovery of some superb frescoes and coats of arms inside. In fact, after a long and laborious cleaning, twelve coats of paint and whitewash dating from various periods as well as the frescoes dating from approximately the 14th century were exposed. The altar, built in the beautiful stone typical of the region, supports a “sacred stone” representing five interwoven crosses.

You may visit the church; a historic booklet is available to guide your visit.
