On the 24th of April, Armand Fallières, the President of the Republic of France followed the proposal of Georges Clémenceau, the Minister of the Interior, and signed the decree dividing the village of Beauregard into two distinct municipalities.
The new parish would be called Bersac. In 1922, it was renamed the Lardin, and in 1967 fused with the village of Saint Lazare, which is how it came to be called Le Lardin Saint Lazare.
Counting 2014 inhabitants, covering 1093 hectares, this traditionally industrial town is situated on a transport axis : it is crossed by a railroad, a major road and a highway from Bordeaux to Clermont Ferrand.
The anecdotal particularity of the Lardin Saint Lazare is that the mayor’s office has changed places four times, each time changing its name, and the post office has changed its name six times without ever moving.
It is the most industrial parish of the department of the Dordogne, thanks to the paper factory within its limits, which is the last chapter in an industrial family line: mine, glassworks, brickworks, tannin extracting plant, paper factory.
The production of this paper factory went from 18 000 to 70 000 tons in 1963. At present, 480 000 tons are produced, and the short-term goal is 600 000. The development of the industrial zone “du Grand Chemin” owes its development to this production, which gave rise to a 25 000m2 delivery and logistics platform and the arrival of two large transport companies.
Though the town is simply a village belonging to the district of Terrasson Lavilledieu, it is equipped with a very technological Regional Soldering Institute, many local businesses, a weekly market, good quality cultural and sport facilities, and the following public services: a police brigade, a fire-fighter brigade, a post office, a train station, performance medical services and soon a day nursery.
Le Lardin Saint Lazare, for all its qualities, is a village well prepared for the future, where you can experience the good life.
