The Perigord Noir is particularly well-known for the authenticity of its farm products. Some of the specialties are:
- Foie gras (fattened goose or duck liver) and other products derived from fattened ducks and geese (duck breast, preserves, pâtés, sausages…)
- Walnuts, chestnuts, hazelnuts, and other nuts, and their derived products: walnut wine, chestnut wine, walnut and hazelnut oil, walnut mustard…)
- Truffles
- Strawberries and other seasonal fruits
- Asparagus and other seasonal vegetables
- Flap mushrooms and other wild fungi
- Fresh cheese and cabecou (local sheep’s cheese)
The Local Farm Products Market is an association representing real farmers who sell these products, and many others, to the public. Tuesday mornings you will find them on the market at Thenon where, in the summer, you will have the privilege of tasting their goods free of charge in a welcoming atmosphere. From the End of September to the end of February, don’t miss the winter market featuring fattened poultry and truffles. The farmers also participate in the evening market at Auriac-du-Périgord during the summer. All the information on these markets is available on our website.
